Culture and Education Committee

The Committee has 6 aspects of focus.

  • looking at the cultural aspects of the European Union, in particular the safeguarding of cultural heritage, cultural exchange, and artistic creation of the nations in the European Union.
  • looking at the Union’s education policy, Both in the school education systems, and in lifelong-learning programmes, such as museums and libraries.
  • developing an audiovisual policy and connecting this with educational information systems.
  • looking at the development of a sports and leisure policy with an additional youth policy.
  • looking to connect information with a media policy.
  • cooperation with third countries in the areas of culture and education and relations with the relevant international organisations and institutions.

Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee

The committee is responsible for:

  • Coordination at Community level of national legislation in the sphere of the internal market and of the customs union, in particular:
    • the free movement of goods including the harmonisation of technical standards,
    • the right of establishment,
    • the freedom to provide services except in the financial and postal sectors;
  • Measures aiming at the identification and removal of potential obstacles to the functioning of the internal market;
  • The promotion and protection of the economic interests of consumers, except for public health and food safety issues, in the context of the establishment of the internal market.

International Development Committee

The Committee on Development is a standing committee of the European Parliament responsible for promoting, implementing and monitoring the development and cooperation policy of the European Union, notably talks with developing countries; aid to developing countries; and promotion of democratic values, good governance and human rights in developing countries.

International Delegations

EUROLAT

The Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly is a trans-national body of 120 Parliamentarians from Europe and Latin America. It was established in 2006 to bolster EU-Latin American relations.

ACP Delegation

The European Parliament is involved in the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, which brings together MEPs and Members of Parliament from the African, Caribbean and Pacific States that have signed the Cotonou Agreement.

EU-Chile

The European Parliament is involved in the delegation of the European Union to Chile, which brings together MEPs and Members of Parliament from Chile.
