Emma McClarkin MEP praises organisers of 2012 Olympics
27th July, 2011With just one year to go before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, East Midlands MEP Emma McClarkin has spoken of her excitement and praised the organisers for the work done so far.
The new Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park was officially unveiled today to mark the one-year countdown to the opening ceremony, and Tom Daley took the first dive into the swimming pool.
London 2012 Chairman Lord Coe has said that the organisers’ plans are on schedule, and Emma, who is the Conservative spokesperson for sport in European Parliament, has also praised the organisers.
Emma said:
“With just a year to go until the Olympics, I’m very excited and I can’t wait for the events to start.
“The preparations have gone very smoothly thanks to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, led by the Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt. He can be very proud of what the organisers and his department have achieved so far.
“I hope everyone has managed to get the tickets they wanted, however if they’ve been disappointed then they can still help and take part by becoming a volunteer at the games instead.”
