East Midlands Politicians Complete ‘High Peak Hike’
23rd August, 2011Emma McClarkin MEP and Andrew Bingham MP have completed their latest ‘High Peak Hike’, which this year is in aid of Help for Heroes.
The Conservative duo spent three days last week walking from Melandra Castle in Gamesley, across Roman roads to the Roman fort at Brough, and then down to Buxton for the finish.
The High Peak MP and East Midlands MEP walked for over 30 miles, including walking up Doctor’s Gate in Glossop in the driving rain last Tuesday.
Speaking afterwards, Emma said:
“I really enjoyed walking in the High Peak again, and it reminded me just how beautiful it is around here. The response we got from people on the way was great, and the weather mostly stayed good for us.
“We think that we’ve raised nearly a thousand pounds for Help For Heroes, which we’re both very pleased about. However people can still donate online up to the end of August at www.justgiving.com/romanramble, or by phoning Andrew’s office on 01298 26698. We hope to get over the thousand pound mark once everything has been counted.”
Andrew added:
“I’m very pleased that we’ve completed the hike, as my feet are starting to ache, and I’m sure my legs will be very stiff tomorrow! It was good to do the hike though, and it’s amazing that we’ve raised almost a thousand pounds for charity.”
