CAP reform discussed at meeting between Emma McClarkin MEP and NFU
5th April, 2012East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has this week visited Woodborough Park Farm in Notthinghamshire for a meeting with the National Farmers Union (NFU).
The meeting was between Emma, Simon Fisher (Senior Food and Farming Advisor, NFU), John Charles-Jones (NFU Council Delegate for Notts), Robert Shaw (NFU Notts County Chairman), and John Miller, an arable farmer and sugar beet grower.
During the meeting, reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) was discussed, including discussions on the ‘Greening’ and sugar reform sections of the European Commission’s proposals.
The meeting was followed by a look at the agri-environment aspects on the farm, where Emma was given a tour of the farm and told how the reform proposals would have an impact on the farm.
Speaking following the meeting, Emma said:
“It’s been great to meet with the NFU today to discuss the CAP reform proposals. It’s very useful to hear the views of the people who reform of the CAP will actually affect, and to be able to take away suggestions for improvements.
“I’m also glad that we got chance to have a look around the farm here, so that I could get a good idea of what the effects of CAP reform would actually mean for farms here in the East Midlands.”
