East Midlands MEP supports Manifesto for new relationship with EU
17th January, 2013East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has this week given her backing to the Fresh Start Project and the work of fellow East Midlanders Andrea Leadsom MP (South Northamptonshire) and Chris Heaton-Harris MP (Daventry).
The Fresh Start Project was formed by MPs to research and propose a new relationship for the UK within the EU, which would better meet the interests and aspirations of the British people. The Fresh Start Manifesto for change was formally launched earlier this week.
Miss McClarkin said:
“I fully believe that the EU is a matter of utmost importance and that we need to get ourselves on a better footing.
“Instead of endlessly speculating on the subject of our future within Europe, the Fresh Start project has started to put meat on the bones, and looks at specific areas of EU legislation, mapping out various options for change.
“It’s clear to me that Europe is changing, so maintaining the status quo is not an option. We need to renegotiate our relationship with the EU to see if it can better deliver for us. If that is not possible then the people should be given the chance to have their say on whether we remain a member of the EU.”
