East Midlands MEP launches photo competition

East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has today announced a competition for all residents of the East Midlands, for the best photo of a landmark in the East Midlands.

The aim of the competition is to promote the East Midlands and for use in promotional literature. Famous landmarks; picturesque landscapes; and life in the East Midlands.

One picture will be chosen as a winner per county with an overall winning picture being chosen from the final 6. The overall winner, to be announced on Monday 17 June 2013, will receive return travel to Brussels and accommodation for 1 night in a Brussels hotel for 2 people.

Anyone who is a resident of the East Midlands can enter the competition, and the closing date is midnight on Thursday 30 May 2013.

Miss McClarkin, Conservative Spokesman for Culture & Education in the European Parliament, is a keen amateur photographer following in her father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. She said:

“Photography has always been a love of mine from watching my father as a photographer and looking at old family pictures and playing with cameras. I want to be able to celebrate the East Midlands’ talent for photography and promote the region as a fantastic tourist destination and also as a great place to live and work.

“Photography is a fantastic art form, not only to express creative skill but also to capture and share our culture, heritage and the real beauty of our surroundings. The digital age has allowed a lot more people to discover the joys of photography and share their work more widely.”

Miss McClarkin hopes to form an exhibition with the pictures to promote the East Midlands as well as use the images for her own newsletters and promotional material for the region.

To enter the competition, the photo must be emailed to emmamcclarkin@eastmidsmeps.co.uk as an attachment in .jpg or .png format before the closing date, with the email subject line as ‘Photo Competition Entry’. The photo must be named in the format ‘NAME OF ENTRANT – PHOTO SUBJECT. The entrant’s contact details, including full name, address and contact telephone number, must be in the body of the email.
