Emma McClarkin MEP re-affirms her commitment to get the best deals for Britain
11th July, 2014East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has this week been confirmed as the lead European Conservative and Reformist (ECR) MEP for the International Trade Committee in the European Parliament, and has used the occasion to re-affirm her passion to fight for British interests.
Miss McClarkin is also the Conservative spokesman for Trade, and will also continue her role on the Culture and Education Committee in the coming term.
The ECR group has seen a meteoric rise in the European Parliament. From being created just 5 years ago, it is now the third largest group in the Parliament, containing 70 MEPs from 15 countries.
Miss McClarkin is keen to act as an ambassador for trade for the region, creating opportunities for business and promoting exports as well as inward investment to the East Midlands.
Miss McClarkin said:
“I’m delighted to be taking the lead for the Conservatives on the International Trade Committee, especially as we start to negotiate a trade deal with the USA – which has the potential to be the biggest trade deal in history.”
“As the EU was given all powers to create trade agreements, it’s important that we are there to scrutinise the negotiations and push for the opening of markets, in order to create the much needed jobs and growth we need to boost our economy and provide more opportunities for young people.”
“I am determined to do my best and fight for British interests on both committees. Whether that means fighting for or against proposed measures, the consideration of whether it would be best for Britain and the British people is always uppermost in my mind.”
