East Midlands MEP supports creation of a one-stop shop for animal welfare
10th June, 2015East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has this week given her support to the creation of a one-stop shop for animal welfare.
She has added her signature to a Written Declaration in the European Parliament, which calls on the European Commission to establish a one-stop shop to streamline animal welfare concerns, and to act as a single point of information and expertise.
The Written Declaration has been circulated around members of the European Parliament, and it is hoped that more than half will sign in order to bring the matter to the attention of the European Commission.
Miss McClarkin said:
“One of the things I’m very passionate about is animal welfare, and it is vital that we, as a compassionate society, do all we can to protect all animals.
“We need more effective enforcement, as well as greater coherence of policy in this area. I therefore hope the European Commission takes notice of this Written Declaration and the idea of a one-stop shop, in order to further protect animals.”
