Emma McClarkin MEP co-hosts conference to combat online child abuse
24th June, 2015East Midlands Conservative MEP, Emma McClarkin, has today co-hosted a conference in the European Parliament, titled ‘Preventing Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Online’.
The conference focused on the emerging challenges related to the fight against commercial sexual exploitation of children online. It also outlined the European Financial Coalition’s efforts to create a common cross-sector platform for everyone engaged in this issue.
Miss McClarkin is a vocal proponent of efforts to protect children online, and campaigns tirelessly for measures to help protect children from online abuse.
Attending the conference were delegates from the European and international political sphere, NGOs who work in the field of child protection, law enforcement agencies and the private sector, all looking at possible ways to effectively address this constantly evolving criminal activity and ensure the online protection of children.
Miss McClarkin said:
“Child protection is something that I care passionately about, and I was pleased to co-host this conference to look at possible ways of dealing with the problem.
“I am delighted that so many people attended, from many different organisations, and it shows that online child abuse is being taken seriously across the EU. This is crucial, as many websites often operate across national boundaries, so there needs to be joint working between countries to combat it and ensure our children are safe.”
