Emma McClarkin MEP welcomes resignation of Sepp Blatter
3rd June, 2015East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has today welcomed the surprise resignation of FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
Miss McClarkin, who has consistently called for more transparency within FIFA, commented:
“I’m very glad that Sepp Blatter has finally resigned; it’s about time. Of course, it would have been much more helpful if he had taken this decision earlier when the FIFA delegates were gathered, but it seems he’s decided to jump before finally being caught out by the police investigation.
“I hope that FIFA now seize this opportunity to clean out all corruption from the federation and start real reform, with full transparency and democracy at the heart of governance of the beautiful game.”
