Emma McClarkin MEP to meet with Minister to discuss Bison Farming
25th January, 2016Emma McClarkin, MEP for the East Midlands, will meet tomorrow (26 Jan) with the Minister of State for Farming, Food and the Marine Environment, George Eustice MP, to discuss what the UK government can do to support diversification in farming and Bison rearing.
Having met with the Commissioner earlier in 2015 and having hosted a roundtable with all stakeholders in Leicester in October, Ms McClarkin now seeks an action plan to be implemented and pursued by Westminster.
Bison farming is vastly different from that of normal bovine farming, with current legislation failing to see this difference. Bison are regularly subject to double regulation, that of Wild Game and that of Bovine.
Ms McClarkin said:
“I have been fighting for common sense to prevail in Bison farming for almost two years now, and I hope that in tomorrow’s meeting we will find a mutual understanding of the difficulties that they face and an agreement of how to proceed.”
