East Midlands MEP wins award for Sports campaigning
17th March, 2016Last night, East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin was announced as the Sport and Physical Activity MEP of the year at the Parliament Magazine’s annual MEP Awards.
The award recognised her campaigning on sports issues such as the need for FIFA to be more democratic, accountable and transparent, along with her continued promotion of grassroots sports in the East Midlands.
Now in its 12th year, the annual awards seek to recognise the work and achievements of MEPs across a range of policy areas whilst bringing together members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the wider EU community.
Ms McClarkin said:
“I am delighted to win this award which reflects the passion I have in this field and my work in highlighting the importance of grassroots sport for all ages.
“Sport has the power to bring huge benefits to local communities across Europe and the EU must do more to provide opportunities to those seeking to promote it.
“We must all work together to regain the integrity of sport, which has faced questions in recent years, and showcase the positive benefits that sport and physical activity can have for individuals and society as a whole across Europe.”
