Nottingham Museum welcomes local MEP
7th March, 2016Notts MEP Emma McClarkin visited The Galleries of Justice Museum last Friday, where she was given a tour of the museum as she heard from the Head of Learning, Pollie Shorthouse, about the work they do to help educate young and disadvantaged people.
As the youngest Conservative MEP in the European Parliament, Miss McClarkin has a particular interest in educating young people and giving them the skills and knowledge to succeed in life.
The Museum recently celebrated its 20th anniversary; since 1995 it has been delivering a heritage experience from the Shire Hall – a Grade II* listed building located in Nottingham’s Lace Market. Housing nationally important collections and offering various exhibitions on crime and punishment, the Museum attracts over 30,000 visitors each year.
Miss McClarkin was shown around the education spaces within the museum, including the Youth Court, the Victorian Civil Court and the Edwardian Police Station.
She said:
“It is great to come and discover something new in a familiar environment here in Nottingham. The Museum has a great history and is a superb educational space with great story telling. I was particularly impressed by the work they do in educating young people about the dangers of social media and cybercrime.
“I’d encourage everyone to come and have a look at the Galleries, whether for the first time or returning visit.”
Pollie Shorthouse said:
“I was delighted to show Emma McClarkin the valuable education work the NCCL does at the Galleries of Justice Museum in Nottingham. Our charity seeks to educate children and young people about the law, how to live within it and inspire careers in the legal sector.”
