East Midlands MEP welcomes first cabinet appointments
14th July, 2016Emma McClarkin MEP has today congratulated Theresa May on becoming the country’s second female Prime Minister, and has welcomed the first appointments to her cabinet.
Miss McClarkin said:
“I want to congratulate Theresa May on becoming our new Prime Minister. She is both a formidable and competent leader, and I have every confidence in that she will do a great job for our country as she sets out uniting the country and party in delivering on Brexit.
“I also welcome the appointments announced so far. Philip Hammond is very capable and a steady hand, who can build on the legacy of David Cameron and the Conservatives in championing a world leading economy. Boris has a wealth of intellect behind his affable character, which I am sure he will put to good use as Foreign Secretary, and I’m equally delighted that both David Davis and Liam Fox have returned to Cabinet.
“David and Liam are both heavyweights on the international stage who are committed to Brexit and will be the perfect ambassadors and negotiators for ensuring that we get the best deal possible.
“As the Conservative lead on International Trade in the European Parliament, I look forward to helping them in negotiating with Brussels and reaching out for new international trade deals which are vital to the UK’s new and prosperous future.”
