MEP brought Poppy Appeal to Parliament
9th November, 2009Emma McClarkin MEP has raised funds for the British Legion by distributing poppies to MEPs and Parliament staff who wished to commemorate Remembrance Day.
The East Midlands’ Conservative MEP was approached by Mike Brown, the Poppy Appeal Coordinator for the British Legion in Brussels Area, to participate in their annual appeal and was delighted that she could be involved.
Emma has also laid a wreath at the Montgomery statue in Brussels in memory of the British troops that fought and died in the two World Wars.
She said:
“It is hugely important to remember the bravery of all our men and women who have fought and died for our freedom in past conflicts.
“Yet this year’s poppy appeal is even more poignant with our current forces courageously fighting for freedom in Afghanistan and suffering so many tragic casualties.
“I wear my poppy with pride and am so pleased that others in the European Parliament have joined me in remembrance of our brave men and women who have and are serving in conflicts across the world.”
