East Midlands MEP welcomes Prime Minister’s crack-down on online pornography
22nd July, 2013East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin has today welcomed the speech by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, in which he signaled his intention to crack down on online pornography.
Miss McClarkin is a long-standing campaigner for protecting children on the internet, having authored a Written Declaration on the issue, as well as having worked with the Internet Watch Foundation to campaign against indecent online images.
Her support follows a speech by the Prime Minister, in which he said that UK households will have pornography automatically blocked by their Internet Service Provider (ISP) unless they choose to receive it. This will make it easier for parents to protect their children by putting family-friendly filters in place.
Miss McClarkin said:
“I’m delighted that the Prime Minister is taking a lead in protecting children online, and not waiting for the ISPs to do something of their own accord.
“I’ve long campaigned on this issue, and I’m so pleased that the UK is showing the world the way forward in helping to tackle online pornography and images of child abuse.
“This action will help to protect British children as well as making it easier for parents to stop their children seeing online pornography, and I applaud the Prime Minister for his stance.”
