East Midlands MEP welcomes changes to help protect children online

East Midlands Conservative MEP, Emma McClarkin, has today welcomed news that Google and Microsoft are to make changes to their internet search engines to block links to child abuse images.

The news follows the Prime Minister stating back in July that he wanted the search engines to do more to protect children online, and is a result of ongoing talks between the Government and the internet giants.

Measures will include new algorithms to block child abuse images, videos, and pathways which lead to illegal content.

Miss McClarkin is a vocal supporter of the fight against online child abuse and campaigns tirelessly for measures to help protect children from online abuse. She said:

“I very much welcome this news and the steps that Google and Microsoft are taking. This is another step in the right direction when it comes to the protection of children online.

“I’m pleased that the strong stance the Prime Minister has taken on this issue is now leading to concrete action, and it will help to protect children who might otherwise have been abused.”
