East Midlands MEP welcomes photo competition winner to Brussels
19th February, 2014East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin recently welcomed the winner of her photo competition to Brussels.
Derbyshire resident Martin Hollingworth won the competition, which was held last summer, with his photo of the sun setting over the Trig Point at the top of Mam Tor, near Castleton. The entries were judged by Miss McClarkin, who is a keen amateur photographer, following in her father’s and grandfather’s footsteps.
As his prize, Mr Hollingworth received return travel to Brussels and accommodation for 1 night in a Brussels hotel for 2 people, and he brought his wife along with him.
They were taken on a tour of the European Parliament by Miss McClarkin, where she talked to them about the work she does and how the Parliament itself works. Mr and Mrs Hollingworth then had the opportunity to visit Brussels city centre to see the sights and take photos of popular tourist areas such as the Grand Place.
Miss McClarkin said:
“Photography has always been a love of mine from watching my father as a photographer, looking at old family photos and playing with cameras from a young age.
“I was delighted to welcome Martin and his wife to Brussels and show them the Parliament, but the city itself is the real gem for photographers.”
The photo has already been used in some material promoting the East Midlands.
