East Midlands MEP hosts Rugby World Cup event in Strasbourg

East Midlands MEP Emma McClarkin this week hosted a reception in Strasbourg to promote the Rugby World Cup, which will be held in England later this year.

Speakers at the event included Bill Beaumont, Chairman of the RFU; Pierre Camou – President of the French Rugby Union; and the Japanese Ambassador to the EU, Keiichi Katakami, who spoke about hosting the event in 2019.

Also at the event was the Webb Ellis Cup itself, ahead of its 100 day tour of the UK and Ireland.

Miss McClarkin, who is a long-time fan of Rugby and previously worked for the Rugby Football Union before being elected, said:

“I’m delighted to have hosted this event, and I know that Rugby fans across England are delighted that we’re hosting the World Cup tournament this year. Rugby is a sport which is growing throughout the world, reaching new audiences all the time, so the eyes of millions will be upon us, and I am sure we will do a fantastic job to continue to promote the sport.”
