Statement on the European Elections 2019

It has been an honour to serve the people of the East Midlands for 10 years. Thank you to all those who have supported me, especially my team who have aided me superbly.

The onus on those beginning to serve the East Midlands is huge. You will be representing our great country at a crucial time in its history. Work hard, be respectful and never forget to put your country first.

It has been a sobering night for my colleagues and my Party and one we must learn from fast.

These were the elections no one wanted. The people’s frustration with Brexit is clear. We must listen to those who feel unheard and unrepresented. And we must deliver.

This is a critical time in our country’s history. One we need to get right. Democracy needs to be respected. The British People are tired of talking about Brexit. They want to see it delivered. They want an end to this uncertainty and the beginning of our new future outside the EU. One I believe is bright.

It’s time to knuckle down. Get tough with the negotiations and get on with the job. Democracy and the British people deserve nothing less.
