Emma McClarkin MEP speaks out about violence against women
5th April, 2011East Midlands Conservative MEP Emma McClarkin yesterday welcomed an EU report on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, as a report on the subject was debated in the European Parliament.
The report asks Member States to consider implementing policies and initiatives to combat violence against women and care for victims of violence. In doing this it aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of violence against women across the EU, including domestic abuse, rape, honour killings, FGM and stalking.
Commenting on the report, Emma said,
“It’s shocking that in this day and age there is still violence against women in the EU.
“I hope that this report brings greater attention to this completely unacceptable violence and the needless suffering that it causes, and that because of it Member States do more in their own countries to address the problem.”
