Charity chosen for East Mids Mep’s ‘High Peak Hike’
17th June, 2011East Midlands MEP Emma McClarkin and High Peak MP Andrew Bingham have today announced the charity they’ve decided to back for their ‘High Peak Hike’ in Derbyshire this August.
The two Conservative politicians have chosen popular soldier’s charity ‘Help For Heroes’ to benefit from the 30-mile ‘Roman Ramble’ themed trek which takes place from 16th – 18th August.
Emma said:
“I’ve met a lot of service men and women over the last two years, and have nothing but admiration for everything they do. I hope that a lot of people sponsor us on this hike so that we can give something back to them through Help For Heroes.
“In the past we’ve always chosen to support local charities, but on this occasion we thought we’d do it for Help for Heroes as we’re now both taking part in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. Doing that has given us both a real insight into the life of a working member of the forces so we thought this year we would recognise that by walking on their behalf.”
Andrew added:
“I’m really pleased that we’ll be doing this year’s hike in aid of Help for Heroes. They do fantastic work helping our brave soldiers who have been wounded in action, and I’m very glad to be supporting them in this way.”
